SIP Calculator
See how a fixed monthly investment could grow over time at an expected annual return. Results are projections, not guarantees.
How SIP returns are estimated
A systematic investment plan (SIP) puts a fixed amount into an investment, usually a mutual fund, every month. This calculator assumes each instalment is invested at the start of the month and earns the same annual return, compounded monthly.
The formula is FV = P × [((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly return (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months.
Returns are not guaranteed
Market-linked returns rise and fall. The figure here is a projection at one steady rate. Try a conservative and an optimistic rate to see the likely range. Inflation also reduces what your money can buy in the future, so compare results in today's terms.
Frequently asked questions
What return rate should I enter?
No return is guaranteed. Many people test a conservative figure, such as 8%, and an optimistic one, such as 12%, to see the range of outcomes. Debt funds usually return less than equity funds, but with less volatility.
Is money in a SIP locked in?
It depends on the fund. Most open-ended equity mutual funds have no lock-in, but tax-saving funds (ELSS) have a 3-year lock-in for each instalment. Check the scheme document before investing.
